This one's a Half Life 1 mod by the same team behind Resident Evil: Cold Blood (A co-op mod I unfortunately haven't had the chance to play) Afraid of Monsters and it's Directors cut. It's available on Desura and Moddb and has it's own launcher and a 3D menu as well as some rather nice looking models and effects, which are all rather effective considering the engine it's running on.
Reminiscent of Silent Hill envisioned as a more actioney game.

It also can update itself from its own launcher and has already had a few custom campaigns added, and a multiplayer mode separate from the main storyline.

MAV
Another one to look out for if you're into the whole customizing giant robots thing, MAV looks promising and there's a demo available. Hawken and MechWarrior Online are also ones to watch if you're into giant fightin' robots, which I sure am. It's still rather early, but if you were into Chromehounds you might wanna give it a look.
Other SCP games
Another one worth giving a go is SCP-087 by haversine. If you're a fan of the SCP wiki already these have tons of atmosphere, and if you're not I'd reccomend giving SCP-087 and a few others a read beforehand.Grab it here.
The game is experimental like a lot of these sort of things so you shouldn't expect a full game, but there are apparently plans for expansion, which sounds lovely-According to haversine it should look something like this or this.
This game also apparently inspired the SCP-containment breach guy to make his own game based on SCP-087 as well, SCP-087-B. Because of how easy it is to retexture and change the audio for 087-B there are quite a few different versions, some of which are pretty funny.

SCP-Containment Breach
Another spooky one to keep an eye on.
Even though it's fairly early on, Beta.0.2.1 is already pretty well done, and has some rather neat mechanics. Probably my personal favorite of the SCP games so far.

Slender:Source mod in the works
Slender:Source is another one to keep an eye on, as the idea of a multiplayer horror game isn't tried or done well that often.

Oh right this is a thing (Slenderman-The Game)
Totally forgot about this. Not expecting anyone to read it but I figured it would be a nice place to put some game stuff that was worth remembering down.
I figured I'd do a little wrapup of some current rather good scary games.
Up first is Slenderman-The Game by Zac1790 and from October 2012 which is a 10MB file and takes about 10 minutes to play through, so I won't waste too much of you're time talking about it, other than saying that I found it surprisingly scary given how fairly simple it was.

Korsakovia
Korsakovia is a hl2 mod by the developers of the fairly well known interactive story "dear ester" from college social research something or other developer the Chinese room.
Before i go any further, let me say that i loved Dear Ester, and that Dear Ester is getting a remake fixing some of it's flaws, such as overall navigation.
both games share several of the same problems, from the root issue of the developers creating a narrative weakly supported by game-play elements. You can't blame them based on the budget, and they're definitely two of the most interesting hl2 mods out there, but it is fairly disappointing. In Dear Ester, the simpleness of the game (basically, just walk) and the lack of any other distractions made the dialogue easy to hear and gave plenty of time to consider.
In Korsakovia, while the mood is just as good and the narrative much more defined, and there are some great visual gags, several problems draw away hugely from their enjoyablility.
First off, the enemies.
The smoke monsters patterns are hard to predict, cause disorientation when they hit you(which is the same effect as another non damage effect), make loud noise (often during dialogue) are hard to see (i swear i was getting hit by a invisible one several times) and are overall just freaking annoying.
They add little to the plot and barely anything to the gameplay, and i found them to be the least creative part of a otherwise good game.
Combine this with sometimes needlessly disorienting map design (the cramped hall levels, particularly when you have smokies all over.
This sort of game requires heavily on a mood being built up, and it felt like those problems just went to hell with the mood.
It seems like someone decided "real" game elements had to be shoehorned in at some point, to make the game less similar to Dear Ester, while just having it be the same concept with story and new mood would have been great.
It's definitely worth a download, but after Dear Ester it just felt like a bit of a letdown-not quite a real game, and not quite a survival horror game.
If you're looking for the latter play they hunger (both the directors cut and original, if you feel like a annoying challenge) and if you're looking for the former, well then Korsakovia is still worth playing.
I sound like im coming off pretty hard on it, but it is still great, especially if you're bored with traditional fps fare.
